Founded in 1998, Stephan Jaklitsch Architects, PC is an award-winning design firm that has won acclaim for its highly refined, carefully detailed work and its masterful, and often unexpected, juxtapositions of materials and finishes. With numerous built projects all over the world, Stephan Jaklitsch Architects, Inc. has developed a thorough process that ensures every project responds to the needs and desires of each individual client.

Stephan Jaklitsch's work is characterized by a sensual, dramatic approach to modernism where clean lines are softened by his skillful detailing and profound understanding of materials. In both Stephan's residential and his retail work, feelings of warmth, drama and luxury prevail, made real by a sense of procession and an exciting mix of finishes - matte vs. high gloss, opaque vs. translucent/clear surfaces, and rough vs. smooth textures.

Stephan Jaklitsch begins the design process by thinking about those who will occupy the space and how they will experience it. This understanding of the psychological aspects of design, coupled with the studio's well-planned and highly organized layouts, has allowed Stephan Jaklitsch Architects, Inc. to create beautiful and striking spaces for a wide variety of sophisticated clients.

The firm's residential projects include interior renovations for Manhattan lofts, townhouses and apartments, as well as new houses in New York and Massachusetts. Stephan has designed fashion showrooms and retail spaces for G-Star, Isa, Danilo Dolci, Fendi, Shelly Steffee, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Marc Jacobs Collection.

Robert Duffy, Marc Jacobs' business partner and Vice Chairman of Marc Jacobs International, hired Stephan Jaklitsch Architects, Inc. in June 1999 to design his apartment on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. That apartment project then led to a long-standing relationship in which the firm has designed all of the Marc Jacobs projects beginning with the San Francisco store (August 2000), the first Bleecker Street store (September 2000) in New York and the Marc by Marc Jacobs Showroom (Spring 2001). He has since designed nearly 50 stores in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Korea, Las Vegas, Dubai, Boston, Bal Harbour, Los Angeles, London and New York for both Marc Jacobs Collection and Marc by Marc Jacobs.

Five of these retail spaces are part of the book New Stores in USA 2 (Edizioni L'Archivolto). The firm's work has been featured in Interior Design and numerous other magazines. British GQ hailed the firm's first New York store for Marc Jacobs as "the sexiest men's shop in the world." Stephan Jaklitsch Architects was named a finalist in the prestigious Chicago Prize Competition for 2003, for the firm's proposed design of a transportation hub and urban connector for a site west of the Chicago Loop and their design was subsequently exhibited at The Chicago Art Institute. The two Marc Jacobs stores the firm designed in Los Angeles won Honorable Mention in the 2006 Travel & Leisure Design Awards. Stephan Jaklitsch was one of 15 designers named by Oculus Magazine for its "New York Next: Faces of the Future" issue and was asked to exhibit his work at New York's Center for Architecture as part of this honor. Stephan was recently selected by New York Magazine as one of ten "New Designers to Watch." His work has been featured in The New York Times, Time Magazine, Zink, New York Magazine, Visual Merchandising and Store Design, The New York Times Magazine, Interior Design, GQ and more.
