This 6,000-square-foot 1870s house has had many unsympathetic renovations and additions over its history. In addition, it lacked a foundation and needed to be completely rebuilt. However, local zoning rules required that we preserve the historic elevation on the street side. So our challenge was to design a home that satisfied these zoning requirements and respecting the original architecture, while designing a home that satisfied the clients demand for a modern and beautiful beach house that took full advantage of the commanding harbor views out the back.
